Keeping Chickens and Grow your Own Combined Course
Our combined Keeping Chickens & Grow your Own Course is split into two sessions:
First Session: Starting with Chickens
Second Session: Grow your Own
Starting with Chickens Session
This is an ideal beginners course for those of you who are thinking about keeping a few chickens in your back garden for their eggs.

The session includes:
- Discussing the various chicken breeds, including battery hens
- Choosing the right chickens for you, and how many you’ll need
- Housing
- Protecting your chickens
- Feeding
- Caring for your chickens
- Common problems and ailments
- Legalities – selling your chickens eggs
Grow your Own Session
Want to start your own veggie plot? Put food on your table – literally? This session will provide you with enough knowledge to get you started.

The session includes:
- Planning your veggie plot into ‘families’
- Crop rotation
- Ground preparation
- The polytunnel
- Composting and making your own liquid fertiliser
- Save money by making your own seed and plant pots
- Seeding, thinning out, planting out
- Natural methods of keeping slugs at bay
- Preserving and storing your produce
We also have various fruit trees, fruit bushes, hazelnut trees, and a herb garden – so there will be an opportunity to discuss all these too.
Our courses are very informal, friendly and informative. We don’t operate a classroom environment and you won’t find any other attendees on the course with you – it’s just you and whoever you bring along in your party. We provide personal tuition which we believe is more beneficial. We are also happy to run our courses at a time and date to suit you – just let us know when you want to come over!
